Application Areas
The DS5203 FPGA Board can be adapted to various tasks, so users can react flexibly to tougher requirements, for example, signal conditioning, using new interfaces, or speeding up model parts. FPGAs are especially useful for relieving the processor board of tasks such as signal preprocessing during ECU development. Engine knocking and cylinder pressure analyses are two of the applications fields for which the 100 MHz device timing of the DS5203 FPGA Board is ideal.
Key Benefits
A field-programmable gate array (FPGA) is a semiconductor device consisting of logic elements that can be configured by the user. The DS5203 FPGA Board features a powerful, freely programmable FPGA, the Xilinx Virtex®-5 SX95 FPGA, consisting of 94298 logic cells and 640 special DSP blocks. The DSP blocks help by performing tasks such as fast, resource-saving multiplication of two signals. In addition, the DS5203 offers 6 ADC, 6 DAC and 16 digital I/O channels, and connection to the processor board via PHS bus. The number of channels can be increased by piggyback modules.
Programming via the RTI FPGA Programming Blockset1)
The DS5203 FPGA Board is programmed via the RTI FPGA Programming Blockset from dSPACE. If you also use the Xilinx System Generator, you can develop an application for the processor board and the DS5203 in combination. The interaction between the two applications can be tested during offline simulation, before you implement them on the real-time hardware. This enables you to react flexibly to new requirements such as new interfaces or having to accelerate the execution of submodels.
